Book details: ARCHITECTURAL GRAPHIC STANDARDS CD-ROM
JOHN WILEY & SONS, INC.
New York, NY

Architectural Graphic Standards (AGS) has been an integral part of architectural practice since it was first published in 1932. AGS offers a unique value to the reader: a set of practical guidelines that represent the commonly accepted methods that architects can use as is or adapt to meet the needs of a particular design problem. And because the American Institute of Architects prepares the content, users are confident in the quality of information.

With the publication of AGS CD-ROM, this classic treasury of knowledge meets the needs of a new generation of computer literate architecture firms. AGS CD-ROM is the electronic reference work that the industry has asked for so many years. It's the information plug-in for all the software that architect's work with today. AGS CD-ROM provides the professional guidance that architects and designers need to make the use of those systems more effective - right there while they are at their computer. It's the complete interactive reference work for architects - the Microsoft Bookshelf, for the design and construction industry.

AGS CD-ROM Version 1.0 was selected from the array of products showcased at the A/E/C SYSTEMS Show to receive the Technology Leader Award from CADALYST Magazine. Cited for its significant improvements over commercially available technology, AGS CD-ROM was the first product to bring professional content to the desktop. Industry reviews consistently praised the title for its design and ease of use as users enthusiastically supported the migration from print to new media.

AGS CD-ROM was designed to be intuitive and extremely easy to use. AGS CD-ROM's navigation scheme presents graphical images, the language of architecture, to help users quickly and intuitively navigate to, compare, and use the information they need. The publishers, John Wiley & Sons, Inc., note "..the graphic interface and navigation makes using AGS CD-ROM an easy, entertaining and highly productive experience." The interface provides hyperlinks that enable users to quickly connect to related information including identification of trade associations and other reference works on the topic. Users familiar with Microsoft Windows can teach themselves to use AGS in less than 15 minutes.

AGS CD-ROM is also a productivity aide. It provides instant access to over 10,000 industry standard drawings, text, and diagrams. Version 2.0 includes several thousand details and drawings in AutoCAD DWG, MicroStation DGN and DXF formats. Users can make all of that information work for them by bringing it into a variety of systems including CAD, desk-top publishing, word processing, image processing - virtually any Windows application. And then they can use the capabilities of those systems to edit and re-purpose the content to suit the needs of their design project.

Version 3.0 continues with the powerful feature called Industry Links that turns AGS CD-ROM into the first "content sensitive Web browser" for the design and construction industry. With Version 3.0's Industry Links, each object (drawings, text or tables) in AGS CD-ROM is linked to Product Manufacturer and Professional Association Web sites that provide additional information to the user. AGS CD-ROM also provides links to Web sites that provide additional detail drawings, building designs, and industry standards. E-mail addresses are included so users can easily contact these industry sources. Much of the product manufacturer information results from a new partnership with Architects' First Source (AFS). AFS has developed a reputation as a leading content provider for construction industry information.

Industry Links makes AGS CD-ROM your road map for navigating the Web. Since it's content sensitive it points you to the relevant information you need and makes the use of the Web a productive experience for the design and construction industry. AGS CD-ROM Industry Links is becoming the preferred method for architects and engineers to navigate the Web for information from product manufacturers, trade and professional associations, and codes and standards organizations. Registered AGS CD-ROM users can visit the AGS CD-ROM Web site to download new and updated Industry Links.
